Independent, family-run LPG supplier near York since 1988
Est. 1988·Sparrow Hall, Scrayingham, York
From grain drying at harvest to steady heat in poultry houses, we keep farms supplied when gas matters most.
Farming and LPG
We’ve supplied gas in rural Yorkshire since 1988, when Ted Milner started the business. We understand that farms don’t run to office hours, and that a run-out at the wrong moment can cost a crop or a flock.
Farms use LPG in very different ways. Some need huge volumes for a few weeks of harvest; others need constant, carefully controlled heat for livestock. Many need both, plus gas for workshops, farmhouses and farm shops.
We plan supply around your farming calendar, with remotely monitored bulk tanks, flexible top-ups and cylinders for the jobs a tank can’t reach.
Most farms are. LPG gives you a controllable, clean-burning fuel without a mains connection.
Farm applications
High demand concentrated into harvest, when reliable top-ups matter most.
Steady temperatures for chicks and birds, around the clock.
Heat for young stock and farrowing where conditions need controlling.
Space heating for workshops, offices and stores.
Heating, hot water and cooking for homes on the farm.
Farm shops, cafés, holiday lets and event spaces.
Farming challenges
Driers can get through a tank quickly when the weather turns and crops come in at once.
How we help: We watch monitored levels closely during harvest and plan extra top-ups.
Losing heat in a poultry house can be costly within hours.
How we help: Remote monitoring means we can see levels falling and deliver before it becomes urgent.
Farm tracks, gateways and seasonal mud can make deliveries tricky.
How we help: We’re local, we get to know your yard and plan access with you.
Bulk gas from one company, cylinders from another.
How we help: We supply both, with one point of contact for the whole farm.
Bulk or cylinders
Most farm heating and drying runs on bulk LPG, from above-ground or below-ground tanks sited to LGUK Codes of Practice. Commercial cylinders are useful for workshops, portable heaters and smaller jobs.
Tell us about your enterprises, buildings and past gas use, and we’ll recommend the right combination. See LPG tanks for tank options.

What our customers say
★★★★★
4.8 out of 5 Google customer rating
As a business, we much prefer to deal with other local, family-owned businesses, where you can put a face to the name and excellent customer service comes as standard, so Rectory Gas Supplies was a natural choice.
Claire Wright, Managing Director, Clive Soanes Broilers
I have been purchasing from Rectory Gas for almost 20 years. They are a friendly company and their service has always been impeccable. I would recommend them to anyone.
Mrs McWilliam, Bishop Wilton
“A five-star rated, independent company with customer service, reliability and competitive pricing which never failed me in the 12 years that I have been a loyal customer. Liam Milner, who in recent years has taken over the reigns, has ensured that whether ordering by e-mail, phone or text, the efficient staff have processed without delay. The various payment methods accommodate those who prefer online banking or a more traditional form of transaction. I would strongly recommend Rectory Gas Supplies.”
