Independent, family-run LPG supplier near York since 1988
From one pick-up truck to a fleet of yellow wagons, Rectory has grown the old-fashioned way: by looking after customers.
How it started
Ted Milner founded Rectory Gas Supplies in 1988, delivering gas from a pick-up truck painted a distinctive shade of yellow.
That colour stuck. Our wagons are still painted the same shade of yellow today, in a nod to where it all started, and many customers know us by them.
From the beginning the business was built on reliability and personal service: turning up when we said we would, and treating customers as people rather than account numbers.
How we grew
Rectory didn’t grow through big advertising campaigns. It grew because customers recommended us to their neighbours, suppliers and friends. A farmer told the next farm; a pub told the hotel down the road.
Today our services include bulk LPG with above-ground and below-ground tanks, tank installation, forklift gas and commercial cylinders, with remote tank monitoring for bulk customers.
Today
Today Rectory is run by Liam Milner, from Sparrow Hall, Scrayingham. We’re a full member of Liquid Gas UK and everything we do is carried out according to LGUK Codes of Practice.
We’re still independent and family-run, and still believe in the same things: big enough to cope, small enough to care.

What our customers say
★★★★★
4.8 out of 5 Google customer rating
I have been purchasing from Rectory Gas for almost 20 years. They are a friendly company and their service has always been impeccable. I would recommend them to anyone.
Mrs McWilliam, Bishop Wilton
“A five-star rated, independent company with customer service, reliability and competitive pricing which never failed me in the 12 years that I have been a loyal customer. Liam Milner, who in recent years has taken over the reigns, has ensured that whether ordering by e-mail, phone or text, the efficient staff have processed without delay. The various payment methods accommodate those who prefer online banking or a more traditional form of transaction. I would strongly recommend Rectory Gas Supplies.”
Mrs Cawthorne, Farlington
As a business, we much prefer to deal with other local, family-owned businesses, where you can put a face to the name and excellent customer service comes as standard, so Rectory Gas Supplies was a natural choice.
